Betrayed and assassinated in 1919, Zapata died young but refused to fade. His image—a rifle and a stare that could burn through steel—remains a symbol of grassroots revolution. Zapata proved that revolutions don’t start in parliaments or palaces—they start in the soil, with those who refuse to be dispossessed.
