We Give to Activist Groups
The East Utopia Trading Company is built on the belief that if we aren't supporting activism, investigative journalism, free speech, and democracy over fascism, then what we really doing? That’s why we donate 5% of every sale —roughly 20% of our profits— to organizations advancing civil rights, labor rights, and social justice.
Through our partnership with Grow & Give, every contribution is processed transparently at checkout and directed to vetted nonprofit partners including the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Jobs With Justice, ProPublica, The ACLU, PEN America, Planned Parenthood, the Human Rights Campaign, and Indivisible.
Beyond Giving at Checkout
Grow & Give lets us provide opportunities to give to a set of organizations. We've tried to pick tried and true, impactful groups working toward equality, dignity, and democracy. We believe that a broad swath of our customer base can take pride in the work these groups do. Grow & Give also allows our customers to make their own donations above and beyond what we donate on their behalf at checkout.

Further, for specific designs, we link to other groups that work on issues related to the theme of the product and encourage our customers to make their own donations on top of what will be contributed at check out. People who specialize in online retail think we are crazy for encouraging our customers to click on links that take them away from our store and invest their money elsewhere. So be it. That's how we roll.
Each purchase you make helps sustain the movements that shaped our past — and those still shaping our future.
In addition to contributions through Give & Grow at check out, we've linked to the following to help drive donations and volunteer opportunities:
-
ActUp NYC
-
The UFW Foundation
-
The A. Philip Randolph Institute
-
The National Employment Law Project
-
Democracy Docket
These are fairly mainstream organizations. Not everyone will love every group that we connect with. However, we wanted to keep impact as high as possible while keeping alienation and rejection to a minimum. We don't agree with everything every one of these groups done but they represent a broad impact across pro-democracy and antifascist organizing, investigative journalism and the rights of writers, civil rights by race and sexual identity, bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom, and labor rights. If you can't get behind that broad agenda, then you are in the wrong place.
We hope you are not.
We hope you can find stuff you love here and find groups that you can support through what we do here.
In solidarity,
Marc Brazeau
