In 1968, Black sanitation workers in Memphis marched with simple cardboard signs declaring “I Am a Man.” No slogans, no frills—just a demand for dignity in the face of poverty wages, racial injustice, and unsafe working conditions. Those four words carried the weight of centuries, echoing through the Civil Rights Movement and beyond.
Martin Luther King Jr. was in Memphis to support the striking sanitation workers. Supporting those workers was his last political act.
This shirt takes the placard off the streets and onto your chest, a reminder that the fight for respect and recognition is never finished. Minimalist, bold, and unshakably human, it’s more than a design—it’s a declaration.
