Welcome to The East Utopia Trading Company's Grand Opening Sale
We are in the business of modern gear for beatniks and bohemians, radicals and reformers. To get things started, we are keeping it simple. Two t-shirts and a long sleeve jersey. A customer can have a shirt any color that they want, so long as it is black.
We'll do stickers and wall art, different shades of shirts, hoodies and sweat shirts, phone cases and throw pillows. But right now, we are starting with shirts.
Never in fashion. Always in style.
These days, there is a certain politics in fashion, there are types of political quips and slogans that are fashionable on shirts, there are authors and artists that are in fashion. This is not that. Our politics, our taste in art is timeless and road tested. We are in it for the long haul and if you are here, we think you are too.

Our Collections
The first thing to understand is that the best way to explore our designs is through our Collections. We currently have the following major Collections. They will fill out over time where they are made up of just a handful of designs and we will add more as we go. Sign up for one or both of our newsletters to keep up as we add and grow.

Maybe not this cool. That granny lives on the Upper West Side and runs a magazine for Condé Nast.
jk: she's AI slop.
All the cool kids are doing it.
Note: We sell long sleeve jerseys but we don't give them away. Only t-shirts are part of the free deal. Sorry, Charlie.
Our Giving Program
OUR GIVING PROGRAM
The East Utopia Trading Company is built on the belief that if we aren't supporting activism, investigative journalism, free speech, and democracy over fascism, then what we really doing? That’s why we donate 5% of every sale —roughly 20% of our profits— to organizations advancing civil rights, labor rights, and social justice.
Through our partnership with Grow & Give, every contribution is processed transparently at checkout and directed to vetted nonprofit partners including the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Jobs With Justice, ProPublica, The ACLU, PEN America, and Planned Parenthood, the Human Rights Campaign, and Indivisible.
Beyond Giving at Checkout
Grow & Give lets us provide opportunities to give to a set of organizations and we've tried to pick tried and true, impactful groups working toward equality, dignity, and democracy that a broad swath of our customer base can take pride in. They also allow our customers to make their own donations above and beyond what we donate on their behalf at checkout.
Further, for specific designs, we link to other groups that work on issues related to the theme of the product and encourage our customers to make their own donations on top of what will be contributed at check out.
People who specialize in online retail think we are crazy for encouraging our customers to click on links that take them away from our store and invest their money elsewhere. So be it. That's how we roll.
Each purchase you make helps sustain the movements that shaped our past — and those still shaping our future.
Who we've linked to so far
In addition to contributions through ShoppingGives at check out, we've linked to the following to help drive donations and volunteer opportunities. Here are some we've already linked to:
What’s in our future?
Right now we are offering our designs on three styles of shirts in one color. Even keeping it that simple, getting the store open had a lot of moving parts. As we figure out what we are doing we plan on adding more products.
The first two will likely be simply making more colors of shirts available. Not every design works on every color but they all work on black. Bringing colors on line means choosing the right colors to choose from for each design. We’ll never put out a product where you might end up looking less than great. You are in good hands.
The other product that will be part of our next phase will be stickers so that our people can make a statement on their phones, laptops, tablets, guitar cases, and anywhere else they want to let everyone else know whatsup.
Beyond that, we expect to offer digital downloads, posters and wall art, puzzles, hoodies, sweatshirts, hats, throw pillows, and more. The best way to keep up is to subscribe to one or both of our newsletters. You'll be able to sign up below.
Our Newsletters
We put out two newsletters. They go out first as email newsletters and then are published on our websites as blogs. They will got out around twice a month and alternate weeks. Sometimes special editions will be issued for special occasions and we might do more than four emails in a month (2 each) and sometimes we might get lazy and do fewer.
EAST UTOPIA NEWS
East Utopia News is a pretty straightforward retail marketing newsletter, with a little EUTC attitude to keep it interesting. Here we aim to keep our community informed about sales and specials, new designs and new products. Don’t tell anyone, but you are reading the first post, right now.
Subscribers to East Utopia News get 10% off any purchase and that discount can compound with other discounts as long as they are subscribed to the newsletter. For people that don’t open their newsletter emails, they will be unsubscribed by us after four months or so (we’re still in the process of setting that kind of stuff up. Don’t lean against that wall. The paint’s not dry!)
THE ESSAY
The Essay is a bit different for a retail operation. Each posting is a real essay about a topic related to one or more of our designs. Essays will cover politics, literature, art, history. Probably the most common topic will be an essay on a figure who has a birthday coming up and a sale in the store celebrating that person. But it won’t be a simple short biography. That’s what Wikipedia is for. I’ll try to write something with a real insight, an interesting angle. Something you want to actually read and hopefully forward to a friend, not to help sell them t-shirts but because you think they need to read it too.
The kick off essay is about the civil rights leader and late congressman John Lewis, democracy as a verb, the world view of Martin Luther King Jr., the fully realized political philosophy of nonviolent civil disobedience, and a thicker conception of citizenship in a democracy. And t-shirts.
For subscribers to The Essay, we’ll included special discount codes not available anywhere else for sales on items related to the essay. That way, for people who subscribe to both emails, they will get double the deals.

Return & Refund Policy
The East Utopia Trading Company is a one-person shop powered by conviction, creativity, and print-on-demand production. Every shirt is printed to order through our fulfillment partner, CustomCat. That means no warehouse, no inventory, and no big-box margins — so our return policy is simple, transparent, and human.
If something goes wrong
If your item arrives misprinted, damaged, or not what you ordered:
- Take a photo — ideally with you holding the product.
- Email us within 10 days at eutc@eastutopiatrading.com with your order #, photo, and a brief description.
- We’ll confirm the issue and either replace it or refund you, whichever you prefer.
You do not need to return the product. We’d rather you donate or recycle it than waste energy shipping it back.
What we can’t take back
Because each piece is printed on demand, we can’t accept returns for:
- Wrong size or fit (please check the size chart)
- Slight color variations between screen and print
- Change of mind or buyer’s remorse
- Limited-edition or custom designs
Cancellations
Orders cannot be canceled. The nature of how those orders are processed prohibits that.
Refunds
Refunds are issued to your original payment method once verified and typically appear in 5–10 business days.
Our Basic Philosophy
We aren't Jeff Bezos. We can’t match corporate return policies, but when there is a real mistake, we’ll fix it. The Print on Demand business model has it's limitations but we aim to be straight-shooters. If there is a real problem, we want to fix it. We want you to be happy.
Summary:
- Contact us within 10 days for real issues.
- Include a photo and short explanation.
- We replace or refund defective items.
- No returns for size or preference.
- No need to ship anything back.
